06 Aug Muscle and Joint Relief Cream
When I hurt my lower back last year for the umpteenth time, it was the first time I relieved it with essential oils. My pain is caused by a weak core and I can fix it, with regular core strengthening exercises and not as many chocolate chip cookies.
…so yeah, where was I…
Oh right – our basement was flooding and I jogged down the stairs to help my husband rescue all of our things. With our daughter in my arms I stepped onto the floor and my foot landed on one of those large foam mats. A realization hit… they float.
One foot stayed on the step and the other launched forward through water. I slammed down to the cement floor with my arms around Alex unable to protect myself.
The next two hours were sketchy. I wasn’t sure if the oils could handle my pain but after several applications, they held their own and I started to feel the relief. I used a lot of oils at a higher concentration, almost 10% dilution.
Here’s what I used:
- 4 tbsp solid coconut oil
- 20 drops PanAway®
- 20 drops Wintergreen
- 20 drops Helichrysum
- 20 drops Peppermint
- 20 drops Frankincense
- 20 drops Vetiver
How to make it:
Combine all ingredients in a 4oz mason jar, apply as needed. You can use this recipe with shea butter, or anything that will act as a carrier for the essential oils. You can also cut the recipe down to half, or even a quarter.
Reference our Essential Oil Safety page for additional information and dilution rates.
Essential oils that are also effective for muscle sprain and strain relief are:
Deep Relief™, Clove, AromaEase™, Lavender, and Thyme.
